As you probably know by now, eXp Realty operates as a completely cloud-based brokerage. Technically, eXp Realty “started” in Seattle, Washington, where Glenn Sanford was operating as an independent broker. But the story is a little more complicated than that.
Glenn Sanford, eXp Founder and CEO, was working with Keller Williams from 2004 to 2007. He then broke off and started working independently as a leader of Buyers Tour Realty. When the market crashed in 2008, the brokerage was on track to close around $80 million in sales volume.
However, after Wall Street went bankrupt and the real estate market took a turn for the worse, Glenn shut down all of his brick-and-mortar offices and moved his brokerage online. At that moment, eXp was born, with operations all over the western edge of the U.S. from Seattle down to California.
So, eXp Realty started in Washington, technically, but even from its inception, it has been operating in multiple markets at once. Today, eXp is operating in all 50 states and 24 total countries around the world.
