About Glenn Sanford, Founder of eXp Realty
Glenn Sanford was born in Peace River, Alberta in 1966. He grew up moving around the country and has spent time in several Canadian cities as well as cities in the U.S., ranging from Washington to Arizona to Oklahoma. He began college at Phoenix College, then moved on to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in Economics and Computer Science in 1992.
Glenn was always what colleagues describe as a “big idea guy.” In 1998, he started his first company, Eshippers.com, which functioned as a space for internet storefronts and warehouses around the country to connect and serve customers better. Four years later, Glenn entered the real estate space.
For two years, he worked with Prudential Kelstrup REALTORS® before moving on to Keller Williams in 2004. He quickly became a top-producing agent, closing over $60 million in his fourth year.
From there, Glenn went on to dabble in the online space a bit more. He bought BuyerTours Realty, which had a unique online marketing model, then founded Working the Magic to help real estate agents with web design and SEO.
Even so, Glenn wasn’t satisfied with what real estate was offering. In 2009, obsessed with the idea of providing real estate agents a way to be owners in their brokerage and gain more from the profits than just enough to pay desk fees, he created eXp.
With 24 agents, Glenn created an entirely cloud-based brokerage, eliminating the need for “desk fees” and creating a sustainable structure for agents to join wherever they lived. In 2013, eXp went public so that it could distribute equities to its 300 agents.
Since that time, eXp has exploded, and in 2023 has more than 89,000 agents all around the world. Glenn committed to the “big idea” of creating a worldwide, cloud-based, agent-owned brokerage. Within a decade, he had completely surpassed expectations.
Today, Glenn Sanford is the CSO of VirBELA and the CEO of eXp World Holdings, Inc. and eXp Realty. He resides in Blaine, Washington.
