It’s actually pretty easy to leave eXp Realty. You won’t be signing a time-bound contract when you join, so you are free to leave the brokerage whenever you want and for whatever reason you feel it’s necessary.
To leave, you’ll want to notify your brokerage team from your local state. It’s crucial that you notify them so that they can help you with offboarding. Many state boards require that your broker release your license from your current brokerage before they can move your license to another brokerage.
The termination process is briefly outlined on page 70 of the eXp Policies and Procedures Manual (for the U.S.). Speak to your broker team for more specifics.
How To Leave eXp Realty Well
I would recommend that when you leave, you ensure that you do so “in good standing.” Make sure that you offer your feedback to the brokerage when requested. This can be helpful for two reasons:
- In case eXp can do something to address your concerns so you don’t have to find a new brokerage.
- Simply to help the brokerage improve—remember, you’ll likely still be interacting with plenty of eXp agents even after you leave.
For these reasons, it’s a good idea to leave as amicably as possible. The real estate agent community can be quite small. You don’t want to ruin good relationships and cause tension where there doesn’t need to be any!
