Does eXp Pay for Agents To Access the MLS?

Technically, eXp Realty doesn’t pay for agents to access the MLS, but there are actually a few facets to this question. Let’s dive into what it means to use the MLS as a real estate agent and see how that works with eXp.

What Is the MLS?

MLS stands for Multiple Listing Service. Agents from a wide area can all upload their listings onto the MLS, allowing other licensed real estate agents in the area to see their listings and connect those listings with buyers, sellers, etc.

Multiple Listing Service

Technically, the MLS is an association. That means that agents need to purchase a membership in their local MLS to upload listings and see other listings. Most MLS associations follow the rules established by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

How Do eXp Agents Use the MLS?

Every real estate agent will need to use the MLS to do their job exceptionally. However, real estate brokerages do NOT pay for their agent’s access to the MLS. That is an expense that an agent pays for themselves.

So, eXp does not pay for its agents to access the MLS. The fees are already so low for eXp agents ($85/month) there’s no possible way that they could do that without incurring a substantial loss!

However, eXp does provide agents with access, through kvCORE, to a website with an IDX (Internet Data Exchange) feed directly drawn from the MLS. eXp itself has memberships in nearly every MLS in the country and requires all eXp agents to also purchase memberships.

In short, eXp does not pay for the agent’s direct access to the MLS. However, it does make it easy for agents to give their clients access to use the MLS through kvCORE’s IDX service.
