FAQs on the eXp Realty Sponsorship Program

Want to learn about eXp Realty Sponsorship? Then you are in the right place. This is where you’re going to get absolute clarity on how the sponsorship program at eXp Realty works. Let’s dive deep on every question you might have about eXp Realty’s sponsorship program.

What Is the eXp Sponsorship Program?

When you join eXp Realty, you have the option to select an active eXp agent as your sponsor. In general, you’ll choose the person who most highly influenced your decision to join eXp.

Once you choose a sponsor, that sponsoring agent is eligible to receive revenue share from the production of you, the agent that gets sponsored. That is, if you choose a sponsor, your sponsor will receive a small portion of revenue share from each of your transactions.

It’s important to note that this revenue share is not taken out of your own commission. Check below to learn more about how that works; you’re going to like it!

Do I Get a Lower Split if I Select a Sponsor at eXp?

In short, no—you will get the traditional 80/20 split regardless of whether you select a sponsor or not.

eXp Realty takes 20% of each agent’s commission (until the agent reaches the standard $16,000 cap). They keep half of the split for brokerage needs and share the other half amongst agents (sponsors) who have helped the company grow in the form of revenue share.

Who Can Be a Sponsor at eXp Realty?

Any active eXp Realty agent can become a sponsor at eXp Realty. It does not matter how much real estate experience you have or how long you’ve been with eXp Realty.

Additionally, even staff members and executives who work for eXp Realty (there are over 1,400 staffers at eXp Realty at the moment) can sponsor agents. As long as you’re part of the company, you can freely encourage another agent to join and sponsor them when they do.

Does It Cost Money To Be a Part of the eXp Realty Sponsorship Program?

No, it does not cost money to sponsor agents in the eXp Realty sponsorship program. As long as you are paying your monthly dues (which you must pay regardless of whether you sponsor an agent), you are able to be a sponsor at eXp.

What Criteria Should I Consider When Selecting a Sponsor at eXp Realty?

You should ask your potential sponsor: “How can you help my business grow?” Your sponsor should be able to tell you how they will help you. They should also, hopefully, be able to provide you with success stories from other agents whom they have helped.

If your sponsor can’t offer you any solid answers or success stories, chances are they’re not going to help you much in your business.

Now, does that mean you should NOT sign up with them as your sponsor? No, not necessarily—you should still name the agent who was most influential in your choice to join eXp Realty. Just be fully aware that if you choose a sponsor who can’t offer you much, it will be up to you to move your business forward without a lot of support from your sponsor.

Right now, the best eXp Realty sponsor benefits come via the Agent First Group (full disclosure, I created this group so I could offer all these free benefits to agents). The Agent First Group currently provides agents with:

Can I Change Sponsors at eXp Realty?

No, you cannot change sponsors at eXp Realty once you become an active agent.

In order to ever switch to a different sponsor at eXp, you’d have to leave the brokerage for 180 days before returning and naming a new sponsor. I do NOT suggest this.

What Is the Difference Between eXp Realty Sponsors and Mentors?

eXp Realty sponsors are simply the agents who were most influential in another agent choosing to join eXp Realty. Sponsors do not have to be local to the agent joining eXp—they can sponsor an agent from anywhere! Also, a sponsor will remain their agent’s sponsor for the duration of their employment with eXp Realty.

eXp Realty mentors, on the other hand, help new agents who have produced fewer than three transactions in the 12 months prior to joining eXp Realty. Mentors are generally local to the new agent and will remain a mentor for the agent’s first three transactions at eXp Realty.

Sponsors are technically optional and any agent can choose a sponsor when joining. Mentors, however, are required for all new agents (who have completed fewer than 3 transactions in the past 12 months) with eXp.

Do I Have To Select a Sponsor When I Join eXp Realty?

No, you do not have to select a sponsor at eXp Realty. It is advisable to select a sponsor who can open opportunities for you to join a community, find additional support, and learn from more extensive training. Ultimately, though, it is not required.

How Much Do eXp Realty Sponsors Get Paid?

eXp Realty sponsors get 3.5% (up to $2,800 per year) of the revenue generated from the agent that they sponsor.

Now, remember, the revenue share program operates from the 20% of your commission that goes to eXp Realty. So, eXp is granting the sponsor a 3.5% bonus from its 20% and leaving 16.5% for additional agents on the revenue share program and to pay other brokerage expenses.

Should I Select a Local Sponsor at eXp?

There are no geographical restrictions when it comes to eXp sponsors. Go with the sponsor who is going to support your business the most. A local sponsor is not as important as a local mentor.

Sponsors are generally not going to help you on a local level anyway—eXp provides a broker team, support staff, and mentors for localized questions you may have. Each state has a sizable support eXp staff to help agents in that particular state.

Again, go with the sponsor who will maximize your chances of generating more business (there are no geographical boundaries for that). Choose the one who influenced your choice to join because they can offer you benefits and support in expanding your career.

What Happens if My Sponsor at eXp Realty Leaves?

If your sponsor leaves eXp Realty, the brokerage itself technically becomes your sponsor. You are still unable to select another sponsor. In other words, nothing really changes for you.

All you’ll lose is the support your sponsor may have provided…which is why you need to ensure you choose the BEST sponsor first thing.

What Is an “Upline” at eXp Realty?

An “upline” at eXp refers to agents who have joined eXp Realty and have sponsored agents along the way. The best way to explain it is with an example.

Let’s say you join eXp Realty and Amber sponsors you. Chances are, Amber was sponsored by someone as well—let’s say Bert sponsored Amber. Now, it’s likely that Bert was also sponsored by someone—let’s say Candice. In this case, Amber, Bert, Candice, and any other sponsors further up the line are considered your “upline.”

These agents make some money from your revenue share, but it’s usually not as significant.
