Many of them are named after founders, some of them after the business or products they sell. eXp Realty, however, is a little different than the rest.
Anyone with a business knows how important branding is. Branding establishes identity, provides recognition and trust to people in the market, and creates genuine loyalty. When Glenn Sanford started eXp in 2009, he knew how important branding would be, but he didn’t want his to be boring. He determined that he was going to give meaning to the name of his business, so that’s what he did.
Why eXp?
It’s not an acronym, abbreviation, or simple “branding” idea. It is, in fact, a prefix. When you initially see those three letters, e-x-p, what do you expect to follow them? It could be “exponential,” “expert,” “exposure,” “exploration,” or “expectation.” Those are the words Sanford thought of. You might also think of “expand,” “experience,” “explain,” or more. You get the idea.
When Glenn Sanford created his brokerage, he realized that these words that meant so much to him all started with the same three letters. He also saw that each one evoked a sense of strength and could create powerful opportunities. So, he decided to use those words to build his brand and the culture surrounding it.

In 2009, it was founded; in 2010, it was open in 11 states; in 2014, it expanded to Canada; and as of 2023, it is open in all 50 states and 24 other countries around the world. It currently boasts 85,000+ agents and saw a net income of $9.4 million in 2023, earning it a spot as a REAL Trends Game Changer. In fact, the brokerage closed on 397,138 sides in 2023. That much growth in just 14 years is the definition of exponential!
eXpert
Definition: one with the special skill or knowledge representing mastery of a particular subject
Agents at eXp are the experts. They are fantastic at their jobs, which is how eXp has seen so much growth. Glenn Sanford has had high expectations for his company, and, so far, it has delivered.
