Why You Shouldn’t Join eXp Realty

You’ve probably heard from tons of agents about why you should join eXp Realty. But, as with any brokerage, eXp isn’t for everybody. In the following paragraphs, I’ll show you why you shouldn’t join eXp Realty based on your personality and business style.

Don’t Join eXp if You Need Validation

eXp Realty certainly has strong leaders and has made incredible waves in the real estate industry. With that being said, eXp is new in many markets. The brokerage started operations in 2009.

This means there are many new markets with new brokers and new eXp staff who are trying to figure it all out. If you are an agent who is not great at thinking for yourself or willing to seek out answers to your questions, you will be left frustrated at eXp Realty.

I AM SO CONFUSED!!!

There is nothing wrong with expecting guidance and support from your brokerage. But if you are someone who requires everything to be shown to you step by step and in person before you build the courage to try it yourself, this may not be the right fit.

If you’re a dependent agent and like people to be there to lead you, double check your work, and hold you accountable, you might not like eXp Realty.

Don’t Join eXp if You Don’t Sell a Lot

If you generally sell fewer than 5 homes a year and aren’t serious about a full-time career, don’t join eXp. Basically, if you are an agent hobbyist, there are other brokerages that allow you to keep more of your money.

Another key piece of earning revenue at eXp Realty is being a part of the revenue share program. But to be a part of it, you have to attract agents and be willing to sponsor them. If you aren’t interested in that, then eXp’s huge upside potential isn’t that beneficial to you.

eXp has other revenue options, of course, including several opportunities to earn stock However, that may not be enough. In order to obtain those equity awards, you either have to sell houses or sell agents (recruit). If you’re only doing 1-2 transactions a year every other year, then you won’t see the upside on your stock or revenue share.

If you’re not doing a ton of real estate and don’t want to work at attracting agents consider using a transaction fee-based brokerage. At this type of brokerage, you’ll be charged a fee for each transaction, but you can keep more money.

Don’t Join eXp If “Collaboration” Is Not In Your Vocabulary

If you prefer to work on your own or just don’t work well with others, eXp may not be the place for you. In fact, eXp Realty is one of the most collaborative brokerages out there right now. This is actually a huge reason for eXp’s success and part of its culture!

You’ll have to work within the eXp Realty model and realize you’re part of a worldwide brokerage. You have to do things the right way. In addition, you can’t ignore the collaborative opportunities eXp provides.

Just about every day, you’ll run into opportunities at eXp Realty to join with EXPERT agents from around the world who have secrets to share. eXp hosts regular masterminds, panels, conferences, and webinars to give top agents the chance to share knowledge with others.

If you don’t want to be a part of that culture and invested in learning from others, and most importantly GIVING to others, on a regular basis, you shouldn’t join eXp Realty.

Will You Join?

Now that you’ve heard some good reasons why you shouldn’t join eXp, it’s time to make the decision. Are you the kind of agent who will succeed at eXp? Or will you struggle to fit?

Consider carefully before you make any decision. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I have helped hundreds of agents decide whether or not to join eXp and have brought many to my group, the Agent First Group, which provides extensive support, training, community, resources, and services to new eXp agents. I’ll do what I can to help you make the right choice in whether or not to join eXp Realty and take you through the next steps from there!
